Lido

Support

Lido is a small app maintained by one person. There is no ticket system and no bot — questions go to a real inbox, and the answers below cover most of what comes up.

Backups & new phones

Lido keeps everything on your device and nowhere else, so a backup file is the only way your history travels. It's worth making one now rather than after something goes wrong.

How do I back up my data?

Go to Profile → Export and backup → Export a JSON backup. Android asks where to save it, and Lido writes a single file containing every drink, your daily goals, your containers, your check-ins and your settings.

Put it somewhere that outlives the phone — a cloud folder, a computer, an SD card. Lido never uploads it for you.

How do I move to a new phone?

Export a JSON backup on the old phone, install Lido on the new one, then use Profile → Export and backup → Import a JSON backup and pick the file.

Importing merges rather than overwrites: drinks that already exist are skipped, so importing the same file twice changes nothing. Your settings are replaced by the ones in the file.

If you used Android's own device-to-device transfer when setting up the phone, Lido's data may have come across already — check the History screen before importing.

Can I get my data into a spreadsheet?

Yes. Profile → Export and backup → Export as CSV writes one row per drink, which opens directly in any spreadsheet app. The CSV is for reading and analysis; the JSON backup is the one to use for restoring.

I deleted something by accident. Can it be recovered?

A single drink can be brought back with Undo in the bar that appears right after you delete it. Once that's gone, or if you used Delete all Lido data, it cannot be recovered — there is no cloud copy, and we have no access to your device. A backup file is the only safety net.

How do I delete everything?

Profile → Export and backup → Delete all Lido data, which asks you to confirm. Uninstalling the app also removes its storage. If your phone backs up to Google Drive, a copy may persist in your own Google account — see section 5 of the privacy policy.

Reminders

A reminder didn't arrive

Almost always one of these, in order of likelihood:

  • Notifications are off. Check Profile → Schedule shows reminders as on, and that Android has permission — system Settings → Apps → Lido → Notifications.
  • It was outside your active hours. Lido only reminds you between the waking hours you set, so nothing arrives overnight by design.
  • Battery optimisation paused it. Reminders are scheduled through Android's WorkManager, and aggressive power management on some phones delays or drops background work. Allowing Lido to run unrestricted in your phone's battery settings fixes it.
  • Do Not Disturb was on. Lido does not override it.

Reminders are a nudge, not an alarm. Don't rely on them for medication or a medically directed fluid target.

Can I change how often it reminds me?

Profile → Schedule, where you set the interval and the hours it should apply to. Reminders land on predictable clock times counted from your wake time rather than drifting through the day.

A reminder is skipped if you've just logged a drink, so you won't be prompted moments after drinking, and — if you leave that option on — once you've reached the day's goal.

I said no to notifications. Will it keep asking?

No. Lido explains what reminders do before Android's prompt appears, and if you decline, it carries on without them and doesn't ask again. You can turn them on later from Profile → Schedule.

Can I log a drink from the notification?

Yes — a reminder carries a quick-add action, so you can log your usual amount without opening the app.

Tracking & goals

How do I change my daily goal or my units?

Both live under Profile → Daily goal: the goal itself, millilitres / litres / US fluid ounces, whether drink types are shown, and your containers.

Changing your goal applies from today onward. Past days keep the goal they actually had, so your history and streaks stay honest.

How is a streak counted?

A streak is the run of consecutive days on which you reached your goal. Logging something isn't enough — the day has to hit its target.

Today doesn't break it while it's still in progress: until you reach your goal, the count is anchored on yesterday. So a streak shows all day and only resets if a full day passes without the goal being met.

Can I add a drink I forgot yesterday?

Yes. Open History, tap the day, then Add a drink to this day. You can also edit or delete anything already there. Insights and streaks recalculate immediately.

What are the containers for?

They're your own presets — "Glass, 250 ml", "Bottle, 750 ml". The first four appear as the quick-add buttons on Today, so your usual drinks are one tap away. Edit them under Profile → Containers, where you can also reorder them to choose which four are promoted.

Does drinking more than my goal break the chart?

No. Going past your goal draws a second, thinner lap around the vessel so 150% looks different from 100%, and the bar chart allows a visible overshoot without one big day rescaling the whole week.

What counts towards my intake — does coffee?

Lido counts whatever you log, at face value. Drink types are a label for your own reference, not a hydration multiplier, because the science on discounting tea or coffee is thinner than the internet suggests. If you'd rather not think about types at all, switch them off under Profile → Daily goal.

Widgets

How do I add a widget?

Long-press an empty part of your home screen, choose Widgets, find Lido, and drag one out. There are two sizes: a compact one showing today's progress, and a larger one that adds a quick-add button.

My widget looks out of date

Widgets refresh when you log a drink and when the day rolls over. If one looks stale, opening the app brings it up to date. Home screens with heavy battery restrictions can delay updates; as with reminders, allowing Lido to run unrestricted resolves it.

Accessibility

If something in Lido is hard to use with an assistive setting turned on, that's a bug worth reporting — please do.

Does it work with TalkBack?

Yes. Every control is labelled, the water level is exposed as a progress value rather than a picture, and each bar in the weekly chart is reachable and reads out its own numbers. Goal completion is announced in words and marked with a tick, never by colour alone.

Does it follow my system text size?

It does, including the largest settings. Layouts reflow rather than clip, and the app also honours your system's reduce-motion preference by settling animations instead of running them.

Can I turn off the vibration?

Profile → Haptics. One switch, off immediately.

Still stuck?

Send the details and, if it's a bug, your Android version and phone model. Please don't send a backup file unless it's asked for — it contains your history and there's no reason for anyone else to hold it.
